MERIDEN — A woman was left hiding in her closet to call police after a man, who she has six protective orders against, cut off his ankle bracelet and broke into her Meriden home Wednesday morning, police said.

Colin McBriarty, 31, of Berlin, was charged with home invasion, six counts of violation of a protection order, breach of peace, second-degree criminal mischief and two other charges after Berlin police discovered around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday he cut off a GPS monitoring bracelet he was required to wear.

Berlin police called Meriden police to conduct a welfare check on a female resident who had “numerous violent domestic incidents” with McBriarty.
