Elmer’s Place, a popular bar and restaurant near Central Connecticut State University, is the latest foundering establishment to benefit from Barstool Sports’ coronavirus pandemic rescue fund.
Elmer’s owner Kenneth “Butch” Cook, who has run the place on the New Britain/Newington line for 40 years, said he and his wife heard the news direct from Dave Portnoy, founder of the sports and pop culture website. In a phone call on Saturday, Portnoy promised $20,000 a month in relief money for the next three months at least, Cook said.
The money will keep Elmer’s afloat, paying rent, utilities and insurance costs and also helping a bit with payroll for ten workers, he said.
