As temperatures plummet, Gov. Lamont activates severe cold weather protocols to offer warm shelter

As frigid temperatures settle in over the Northeast for the next week, Gov. Ned Lamont has activated the state’s severe cold weather protocol through Wednesday to help provide shelter to anyone currently living outdoors and in the elements.

Temperatures will be several degrees below average through the first half of next week, with highs that will struggle to break out of the 20s and lows in the single digits, according to the National Weather Service.

Such icy cold is dangerous for individuals in need of shelter, so Lamont has implemented the cold weather protocol that initiates a system for agencies and municipalities to coordinate with the United Way’s 211 system and the state’s networks of shelters to try to provide every single person in need with a warm place to stay so that they are safe from the severe temperatures.
