Aiming to stop UConn parties and blunt COVID-19 risk, Mansfield approves tighter gathering restrictions, fines

Fearing the return of UConn students to campus this week might spark a spike in coronavirus infections, the Mansfield town council voted Monday to allow the town manager to significantly limit the permitted size of gatherings in town.

But it remains unclear whether the state will sign off on the restrictions — and how Mansfield would actually enforce the rules if they are approved.

The authorization, approved unanimously, allows the town to cap indoor gatherings at 10 people and outdoor gatherings at 20 people, with the threat of a fine up to $250 for those who violate the rules.
