ACLU says Connecticut is failing to comply with COVID-19 settlement meant to keep prisoners safe

The ACLU of Connecticut sent a letter this week to state officials arguing that the Department of Correction is failing to hold up its end of a settlement meant to protect prisoners during the coronavirus pandemic.

The assertions in the letter, addressed to lawyers representing the state, are that inmates, their families and lawyers visiting their clients have reported compliance issues at all of the 14 DOC facilities.

Over the summer, DOC reached a settlement with the ACLU after they filed suit on behalf of a number of inmates as concern swelled over their safety during the COVID-19 pandemic, which sickened more than 1,500 inmates.
