ACLU, NAACP want Hartford State’s Attorney Gail P. Hardy disciplined and denied reappointment over unresolved police shooting investigations

As the Criminal Justice Commission prepares Thursday to revisit the decadelong delays in deadly police shooting investigations by Hartford State’s Attorney Gail P. Hardy, prominent organizations including the NAACP and the ACLU of Connecticut are pressing the commission to discipline Hardy and not approve her upcoming reappointment.

The call for discipline comes amid a resounding nationwide call for greater police accountability following the killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis police. Locally, activists and community leaders have organized rallies and marches across the state and demanded state lawmakers take action.

The commission, which has authority over Connecticut’s 13 state’s attorneys, has been reviewing Hardy’s failure to complete four deadly police shooting investigations dating back to 2008 in a timely manner.
