A manufacturing mishap led to a shortage of the J&J coronavirus vaccine. Here’s what that means for Connecticut

After a mix-up at a Baltimore plant tasked with manufacturing the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, as many as 15 million doses of the one-shot vaccine had to be scrapped, leading to shipment delays and shortfalls across the country.

The error, which did not affect doses that were already shipped, is rippling across the entire nation and hitting many states just as they open eligibility to their entire adult populations.

Originally, Connecticut had expected to receive about 20,000 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine next week, according to the state’s chief operating officer, Josh Geballe.

But with the manufacturing mishap, Geballe said the state now expects to receive about 6,000 doses next week.
