LOS ANGELES -- When UCLA coach Jim Mora promoted Kennedy Polamalu to offensive coordinator following Noel Mazzone’s departure for the same role at Texas A&M, the prevailing theory was that the Bruins would ditch a lot of their shotgun, up-tempo, zone-read concepts in favor of a more traditional look.
While announcing the staff changes -- which also include the addition of Marques Tuiasosopo as quarterbacks coach and Rip Scherer as tight ends coach -- Mora said the program’s evolution will lead to a "multifaceted offense," which utilizes tight ends and fullbacks.
That change in philosophy, for many, has been referred to a shift toward more of a “pro-style” offense.
