None of UCLA’s top three running backs emerged as leading men for the Bruins, so offensive coordinator Kennedy Polamalu turned to his youngsters to ignite competitive fire.

Saturday Against Oregon State was the first time UCLA used all five of its running backs in one game. The quintet helped the Bruins to a slump-busting 38-24 victory on Saturday, led by freshman Jalen Starks and sophomore Bolu Olorunfunmi.

“Our back’s against the wall and we have to get them to compete and I thought they all competed,” Polamalu said. “They wanted to outdo the one that was out there so I gave them fair shots at it, and I thought they made some plays.
