UCLA notes: Bruins don't like flag football

LOS ANGELES – UCLA invited referees to practice four times in three weeks, and Coach Jim Mora instructed the officials to be as stringent as possible. Anything that even remotely looked like a penalty needed to draw a flag.

Even with “extremely tight” officiating, Mora came away pleased with the lack of penalties in practice.

Now it’s time for the Bruins to do it in games.

In 2012, Mora’s first year at UCLA, the Bruins were last in the nation in penalties and penalty yards per game. They’ve consistently been among the worst in the country every year since in both categories.
