UCLA looks to refuel running game, regain confidence

LOS ANGELES – Training camp for the UCLA football team is a distant memory. Back then, before the Bruins slipped to 3-3 and fifth in the Pac-12 South, UCLA’s confidence in its running game was as high as the temperature in San Bernardino.

Things have cooled considerably, both for the weather and the Bruin running backs.

After four ineffective games on the ground, UCLA faces the conundrum of manufacturing confidence in the running game during a fundamentally confidence-crushing situation when game after game and rush after rush, the yards still don’t come.

“You’ve got to find a way to be critical and self-critique and demanding and honest with yourself, but at the same time find a way to build confidence back,” Coach Jim Mora said as UCLA prepares to face Washington State at 7:30 p.
