Despite two valiant performances as UCLA’s starting quarterback, Mike Fafaul’s Achilles’ heel has been turnovers.
While setting a school record for pass attempts (70) and completions (40) Saturday against Utah, Fafaul also threw four interceptions, the most for a UCLA quarterback since Brett Hundley threw four against Cal in 2012.
“It’s hard to win a game when you have five turnovers,” said Fafaul, who also lost a fumble against the Utes. “Yeah, it was a good game stat-wise, but it really only matters if you win.”
With limited game experience, the fifth-year senior has eight interceptions in 122 pass attempts this season, throwing a pick for every 15.
