Tonight, the UCLA Bruins open the 2018-19 men’s basketball season with a game against the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons at 6 pm PT at Pauley Pavilion. Tonight’s game will air on Pac-12 Networks National and Los Angeles.
I find Purdue Fort Wayne’s mascot quite ironic. Here you have a basketball team which likes to play fast with a nickname that is anything, but fast. Sure, Mastodons were pretty powerful, but I wouldn’t think of them being fast.
Something else you should know about Purdue Fort Wayne is that, last season, the school was generally known as IPFW, standing for Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne.
