Pac-12 Basketball Media Day: UCLA faces some blue-blood bullies

SAN FRANCISCO – The release of the national coaches’ poll Thursday was perhaps an ominous forecast for the UCLA men’s basketball team.

Tied at No. 1 were Kentucky and North Carolina, two teams the Bruins face when their nonconference schedule begins next month.

The Wildcats hammered the Bruins, 83-44, last season in Chicago, holding them to seven first-half points, the lowest point total in a half in program history.

So, is UCLA coach Steve Alford circling the teams’ rematch on Dec.3 at Pauley Pavilion on his calendar?

“I’d like to delete it from the calendar,” Alford quipped.
