PASADENA – After failing to run the ball for more than a month, offensive coordinator Kennedy Polamalu said he would simplify his system. By that, he meant he would turn the clock back a year to former offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone’s spread.
When the Bruins took the field Saturday against Utah with their new, old offense, they ended up with the same results that ultimately sent Mazzone out of Westwood to College Station, Texas: a fast offense, a tired defense and a costly 52-45 loss.
The loss likely knocks UCLA (3-5, 1-4 Pac-12) out of contention for the Pac-12 South title.
