LOS ANGELES – The scrutiny finally broke Steve Alford on Sunday.
In the postgame news conference after UCLA’s 23rd win in 26 games this season, the Bruins coach called the season-long investigation of his team’s defense “almost comical.”
UCLA is an offensively-oriented team, and Alford refuses to apologize for that.
But if there was one instance this season when the UCLA coach might have invited the scrutiny, it was after the Bruins’ loss to USC on Jan. 25 at Galen Center.
UCLA’s much-publicized defensive efficiency actually improved over the course of its 84-76 loss, according to analyst Ken Pomroy.
