Johnny Dawkins once called Matt Williams' return the best surprise for the UCF men's basketball team during an offseason full of changes.
Williams lived up to those words with a commanding performance, leading the Knights with 20 points during a 80-56 victory over Nicholls in the team's season opener Monday night at CFE Arena.
With the Knights fighting through a tight first half, the senior guard executed key early plays to help put UCF in position to pull away.
"It feels so good just to be here and be able to see my family and just to be able to be around Coach Dawkins and just being able to help my teammates," said Williams, who considered transferring to Wake Forest earlier this year.
