Johnny Dawkins upbeat UCF basketball can thrive despite pandemic

The ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex sits 35 miles from UCF men’s basketball coach Johnny Dawkins' office. The NBA spent the past four months at the venue hosting games in a bubble, limiting exposure to the coronavirus pandemic while completing the 2019-20 season.

As the Knights prepare to embark on what undoubtedly will be the strangest season in college basketball history, Dawkins hopes to use some of the lessons learned from the NBA and other professional leagues who’ve adapted to playing sports while COVID-19 spreads nationwide.

“We’re all hopeful that it will work for us,” said Dawkins, who is set to begin his fifth season at UCF.
