Matt Lee attends Hagerty High in Oviedo, which is about seven minutes from Spectrum Stadium at UCF. By Lee’s estimation, his house is only about “10 to 15 minutes” from UCF.
So it’s tinged with irony that Lee’s first Football Subdivision scholarship offer, which he received Tuesday, comes from UCF rival USF.
“It is kind of weird,” said Lee, a 6-foot-3, 285-pound offensive lineman at Hagerty. “I’ve talked to the coach at UCF, so we’ll see what happens. … but yeah, kinda weird.”
His first contact with USF came from defensive coordinator Brian Jean-Mary and then the rest of the recruiting took place with Bulls offensive line coach Mike Mattox.
