On a rainy Thursday afternoon, the UAB Rugby Club slopped around on the muddy West Campus Fields as they prepared for their weekend tournament at the University of South Alabama.
The UAB Rugby Club is just a baby compared to other sports around campus. The club started in 2011 practicing with the Birmingham Rugby Club before coming to UAB as a true club sport.
“UAB broke off from Birmingham and started practicing at West Campus Fields,” said Tommy Babakitis, coach of the Rugby Club. “Last spring was our first season of sevens competing against other college teams.
