Tulsa's Patrick Dever finished fifth in the 10,000m run at the NCAA West Preliminary on Wednesday night at E.B. Cushing Stadium in Bryan-College Station, Texas. With today's finish he advances to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon in June (June 9-12).
Dever's time of 29:11.08 was 20.97 seconds behind first-place finisher Iowa State's Wesley Kiptoo (28:50.11), but just 0.72 seconds behind Arkansas' second-place finisher, Gilbert Boit. Scott Beattie finished 17th with a time of 29:41.26, while Peter Lynch was 30th in a time of 30:24.
