IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Tulsa women's tennis tandem of Vera Ploner and Martina Okalova defeated Missouri's Mackenzy Middlebrooks/Ellie Wright, 6-4, 6-1, en route to becoming the ITA Central Regional Doubles Champions on Tuesday.
The victory marks the fifth time in program history Tulsa has won the title, while being the fourth duo to achieve the feat. Okalova and Ploner are the first Golden Hurricane Central Region doubles champions since Samantha Vickers/Isaura Enrique in 2012.
The first set came out in a back-and-forth manner, with TU edging out Middlebrooks and Wright on strong play at the net, 6-4.
