The Pirates jumped out to an early 7-2 lead to start the first set. With score 11-7, in favor of ECU, Tulsa went on a 5-0 run and took a 12-11 lead. Tulsa extended its lead to 23-20, before ECU pulled within one, 23-22. After a well-timed timeout, Tulsa went on to score the next two points and win the first set, 25-23.
