PHILADELPHIA — Sterling Taplin became the 38th player in Tulsa history to reach 1,000 career points, but Temple pulled away from the short-handed Golden Hurricane late for an 84-73 win on Saturday afternoon at the Liacouras Center.

Martins Igbanu and Curran Scott each scored 15 points to lead the Golden Hurricane (16-12, 6-9), who played without injured leading scorer DaQuan Jeffries. Taplin finished with 11 points and now has 1,004 points in his career.

The Hurricane heated up to shoot 53.
