PHILADELPHIA — Senior point guard Sterling Taplin was named preseason second-team all-conference in a vote by the American Athletic Conference head coaches, it was announced on Monday morning at the start of the league's media day.
Taplin is coming off a career season in 2017-18, when he averaged 11.8 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game. The East Amherst, N.Y., native appeared and started in 30 games and also set career highs with a .462 shooting percentage and 38 3-pointers made. He scored in double-figures 18 times, led by a career-high 30-point effort in a win at UConn, and ranked fourth in the league with his 4.
