It's all about the beads: Mardi Gras throws have inspired Tulane takeaways

The oversized beads just popped up around the neck of junior linebacker Lawrence Graham after he hauled in an interception against Wake Forest in the season opener.

Mardi Gras beads with an Angry Wave, and thus, the takeaways beads were born to a national TV audience.

"We discussed it this summer, and I'm not sure exactly where the Mardi Gras beads came from," Tulane defensive coordinator Jack Curtis said. "But what a great idea. It's unique to New Orleans and Tulane, and I think people have jumped all over it. The kids love it. It's something that is unique to us.
