TROY — There was panic in his voice as Tyler Sumpter drove home that day.
The redshirt freshman, who had punted all season for the Troy Trojans, had been told to get ready for place-kicking, too, and he scrambled to get ready.
Sumpter, who hadn’t tried a serious kick since April, didn’t spend a relaxing weekend at home.
Instead, he was re-learning how to kick with his personal coach.
“I literally called him on the way back to Hoover,” Sumpter said. “‘Oh my god, I have to kick field goals. You have to meet me.
