TROY — One of Troy’s all-time greats, six years after his final game with the Trojans, had bold words for Troy’s game late Thursday night.
The Trojans had a late-night kickoff against Arkansas State, took the field as the nation’s 25th-ranked team and were battling for control of the Sun Belt Conference.
“This might be the biggest game in Troy football history,” said Jerrel Jernigan, a former receiver who went on to an NFL career.
“I’ll definitely say that. This is the first week we’ve been ranked and it’s basically for the conference championship.”
Troy jumped into the rankings for the first time in school history Sunday after last weekend’s dramatic home victory over Appalachian State.
