TROY — Troy’s epic drive for the winning touchdown Saturday ranks well in the school’s annals.

The Trojans went 97 yards on nine plays to take a 22-17 win over Akron at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Brandon Silvers threw a 23-yard TD pass to Deondre Douglas to give Troy the lead with 1:06 remaining.

The Trojans (3-1) had just three other touchdown drives as long in their Division I-A history.

The Trojans had 98-yard scoring drive against Louisiana-Monroe in 2014 and against Southern Utah in 2002. Troy had a 97-yarder in 2015 at New Mexico State, a drive capped by a 92-yard run by Brandon Burks.
