TROY — Melvin Tyus tries to keep the memories at bay, preferring to focus on what’s to come, but there’s no doubting the impact of Troy’s last meeting with Southern Miss.
Tyus, today a senior captain for the Trojans, was then a redshirt freshman. Troy, today in one of the most successful runs in school history, was then trying to find itself.
The Trojans’ 37-31 win over the Golden Eagles helped spark the prosperity that has followed.
“It gave us a lot of confidence,” Tyus said.
