NEW ORLEANS – Certainly the Troy offense had a field day Saturday with two 100-yard receivers, a 100-yard rusher and an MVP performance from the quarterback.
But when the Trojans needed a boost, the defense provided their own big plays to help Troy earn a 50-30 victory over North Texas in the New Orleans Bowl played in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
The Troy defense, facing what was the nation’s 18th-best offense, tallied five turnovers, six sacks and 11 tackles for loss in slowing the Mean Green attack. After the Trojans (11-2) led by two at halftime, two of those turnovers led to 14 points – the straws that broke the Mean Green’s backs.
