Troy kicker Ryan Kay is officially 71-for-71 on extra point attempts after a miss last week was attributed to a bad hold.
After facing one team of the two teams leading the nation in blocked kicks last week, the Trojans contend with the other Saturday when they battle Georgia Southern in Statesboro, Ga. The Eagles have blocked seven kicks this season, including three punts and a few extra points.
“On extra point field goal, (they) get really good penetration and give great effort,” said Jon Sumrall, Troy’s special teams coordinator. “I think a lot of times you can watch a team’s field goal block unit and get an idea of what their character is because that’s usually after a bad play – and they play hard and really get good penetration inside and give good effort on that team.
