The game would complete a home-and-home series the Trojans and the Wolfpack agreed to earlier this decade, but which has had some delays. Shortly after Troy made the trip to Raleigh to play North Carolina State in 2015, the Wolfpack completed a deal to play South Carolina in Charlotte, N.C. , to open the 2017 season.
The Wolfpack then chose to move a game with Furman to accommodate the schedule addition, which impacted the original date of their return trip to Troy (Sept. 23). Since then the schools have been working to find a suitable date to finish the deal.
