Troy football notebook: Defensive stop, long drive capped big road victory

TROY – The Troy Trojans took pride turning what looked like a 60-minute game into a 53-minute, 45-second contest last Saturday in their Sun Belt Conference opener at New Mexico State.

After New Mexico State had cut what was once a 20-3 Troy lead in the second half to 27-24 in the fourth quarter, the Trojans’ defense recorded a clutch three-and-out. The offense, pinned inside its 3-yard line, then drove off the goal line to take the final 6:15 off the clock.

“That was great,” Troy quarterback Brandon Silvers said. “That is the thing we work on in every scrimmage during fall camp.
