Troy falls to Georgia State in Sun Belt quarterfinals, 73-51

Troy's bid to repeat as Sun Belt Conference basketball tournament champions ended on Friday with a 73-51 loss to Georgia State in New Orleans.

The Trojans, who beat South Alabama in the first round on Wednesday, end their season at 16-17. The second-seeded Panthers (22-10) advance to face the winner of Friday's late game between Georgia Southern and Louisiana-Monroe in Saturday's semifinal round.

Troy shot just 22.7 percent in the first half, trailing 37-19 at the break. Georgia State, meanwhile, shot 50.9 percent from the field in the game.

Jordon Varnado scored 15 points and added nine rebounds to lead the Trojans, while Wesley Person added 14.
