Junior Kaleb Barker will be Troy's starting quarterback when the Trojans host Boise State on Saturday.
Troy coach Neal Brown chose Barker, a Priceville High alum, over redshirt sophomore Sawyer Smith of Cantonment (Fla.). The 6-foot-1, 206-pound Barker, in a backup role last season, ran for 181 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries, while completing 8-of-13 passes for 143 yards and a touchdown.
"He earned that opportunity; he had a great fall camp," Brown said today during a press conference.
Brown added that Smith (6-3, 219) will see action against Boise State. Smith redshirted last season.
