Trojans turn back the clock with Rattlers coming to Troy

TROY – The Troy Trojans are turning back the clock in a couple ways this weekend.

For the first time since 2013 – and just the third time since 1997 when it was still playing Division I-AA football – Troy opens the season with two home games when Florida A&M returns to Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday night.

Troy leads the series 3-2 and three of those meetings came in the FCS playoffs (1996, 1998, 1999). The most recent game was in 2002 when the Trojans beat the Rattlers 24-7.

Troy’s 1968 NAIA national championship team featuring quarterback Sim Byrd and receiver Danny Grant – who both still hold school records – will celebrate the 50th anniversary of that title season this weekend.
