BATON ROUGE, La. – Troy put itself in ideal position in the first half because of its stellar play on third down.
For the game, the Trojans were 10-for-18 on third down. But in the first half, they were a blistering 7-for-11. Early on, they stayed ahead of schedule and converted on third-and-4 on their short touchdown drive. They also converted on third-and-2 twice and turned a third-and-1 into another first down.
Quarterback Brandon Silvers pointed that success rate was of the early downs.
“It’s always big to get third-down conversions,” Silvers said. “But a lot of those we were more third-and-medium than third-and-long, like we’ve been in the past.
