Even though Troy brought just two offensive stars and their offense-oriented head coach to Sun Belt Media Day in New Orleans Monday, the Trojans’ revamped defense became a hot topic.
Troy head coach Neal Brown said several factors helped the Trojans turn a 4-8 season in 2015 into a 10-3 campaign in 2016 that ended in a Dollar General Bowl win. On the field, he pointed to the defense’s ability to force turnovers.
“We were one of the top teams in the nation in turnover margin,” he said.
Last year, Troy finished 12th nationally in the category after forcing a whopping 30 turnovers in 13 games.
