TROY – Even as an incoming college freshman, John Johnson knew he’d play the role of a Welcome Wagon, of sorts, for Troy University football players.
The Troy native and Charles Henderson graduate went from the “Gem Atop a Hill” – a line from the high school’s alma mater – to the school across the street.
Johnson was prepared to help his teammates find their way around, show them where to eat and hang out.

“I helped people find where to get haircuts. That’s a big thing,” Johnson said on the eve of his senior season at Troy.
