TROY – Troy picked up a key resume-boosting win when a late offensive onslaught powered the Trojans past No. 22 Auburn 9-5 Tuesday night at Riddle-Pace Field.
Troy (36-17) had to weather two delays due to rain and lightning and a seventh-inning rally to knock off the Tigers (35-18), but a pinch-hit double from Cole Prestegard and a two-run homer from Joey Denison secured the win.
Troy entered the game squarely on the for an at-large berth into the postseason with an RPI of 43, but the win against the Tigers (RPI 12) likely sharpened their chances to make the NCAA Tournament.
