After tying an NCAA record with two kickoff returns for a touchdown, Troy freshman Marcus Jones has been named the Sun Belt Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Jones became just the 24th player in NCAA FBS history and the first in Troy’s long history to return a pair of kickoffs for a touchdown in a single game.
A native of Enterprise, Jones took the opening kickoff of the game at Coastal Carolina 91 yards to the end zone to give the Trojans a lead they never relinquished. It wouldn’t take much longer before he would etch his name in the record books as he returned the second kickoff of the game 87 yards to the house to put Troy up 14-3 in the first quarter.
