TROY – Important games in college baseball are usually reserved for weekends, but Troy’s Cory Gill experienced plenty of big-game action in midweek contests in 2016.
When Troy faced off against No. 22 Alabama and No. 3 Mississippi State at home last year, Gill – then a true freshman – earned the starts. While he kept Alabama off the board for 4 1/3 innings, Mississippi State roughed him up for seven earned runs in 3 1/3 innings.
“Mississippi State was a humbling experience,” he said with a smile.
While Gill may have more of a bullpen role this season, he took lessons away from those games that could shape 2017 into a better year than 2016.
