TROY, Alabama – B.J. Smith's busy preseason continued on Thursday when the Troy senior running back was named to the Wuerffel Trophy Watch List. Presented by the Chick-fil-A Foundation, the Wuerffel Trophy is awarded to the FBS player that best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.
A native of Millbrook, Ala., Smith was named the Sun Belt Preseason Offensive Player of the Year last week in addition to landing on the preseason watch lists for the Maxwell Award and the Doak Walker Award.
Smith rushed for 1,186 yards last season which led the Sun Belt over the 12 regular season games and ranked second, by one yard, for the entire season.
