Former Arsenal midfielder and football commentator Stewart Robson has told talkSPORT the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system is not the problem - the ‘incompetent’ referees that operate it are.
VAR was at the centre of controversy again on Wednesday night during Tottenham and Rochdale’s FA Cup replay at Wembley Stadium.
The first half of the game was branded ‘comical’ and ‘embarrassing’ after Spurs had a goal disallowed and a converted penalty overturned all through VAR decisions.
The new video referee system has only been used in a handful of televised games this season, but it has been widely slammed by fans and pundits.
