Royal was subbed off in stoppage time during Brazil's 2-1 friendly defeat to Morocco on Saturday and complained off a knee injury after the match.
It has now been revealed that the full-back could miss the remainder of the Premier League season with his expected recovery from knee surgery set to take around six weeks.
The 24-year-old has made 22 Premier League appearances this season and was a favourite under Antonio Conte prior to his recent departure.
