Tottenham need to improve at Wembley, says boss Mauricio Pochettino ahead Champions League opener with Borussia Dortmund

Mauricio Pochettino admits Tottenham fluffed their first attempt at the Champions League under him last season but insists there will be no excuses second time round.

Spurs host Borussia Dortmund at Wembley on Wednesday night as they hope to avoid a repeat of last season's Champions League opening defeat by eventual semi-finalists Monaco.

After failing to progress from what was considered a relatively kind group featuring CSKA Moscow, Leverkusen and Monaco, Pochettino conceded his squad had struggled to cope with the physical and mental demands of the Champions League.
