The foe you know - Manchester United's Michael Carrick

A smooth operator in the middle of the park thanks to his calmness on the ball and classy range of passing, Michael Carrick left us for Manchester United back in 2006 and remains a respected member of their squad to this day.

After coming up through the ranks at West Ham, he made 138 senior appearances for our London rivals but after a season in the old Division One in 2003-04, he switched to White Hart Lane in August, 2004.

A slight injury meant his Spurs career got off to a slow start and he was forced to wait until mid-October of that year to make his debut, but the appointment of Martin Jol as manager in November, 2004, heralded the start of a fine spell of form for the midfielder.
