Leyton Orient legend and record appearance maker Peter Allen dies at the age of 76 as tributes pour in for the former O's midfielder

Leyton Orient legend and record appearance maker Peter Allen has died at the age of 76.

The midfielder, who made the most first-team appearances of any player in the club's history with 490, passed away on Monday.

Allen joined the East London side from Tottenham Hotspur, aged 17, in March 1965 and made his Football League debut at Portsmouth's Fratton Park in September.

His tough-tackling approach made him a regular in the first team by the late 1960s.

Allen was also an integral part of the 1973-74 team, captaining the team to within a point of promotion to the First Division.
