Harry Kane is set to tell Gareth Southgate he wants to play against Wales as he hunts down England’s all-time goalscorer record.

Captain Kane’s fitness has been under a cloud in recent days after taking a blow to his foot in last Monday’s 6-2 victory over Iran.

The Tottenham striker played in Friday’s goalless draw against USA on Friday night but wore heavy strapping on the right joint while Kane’s fitness was also called into question following a sluggish performance.

The concerns over Kane’s ankle has led to calls for him to be rested against Wales, particularly given the only way England can be eliminated is if they lose by four goals.
